Riyadh, 9th Feb. The ongoing World Defence Show (WDS) 2024 in Riyadh witnessed a remarkable representation of Tri-Service women officers, showcasing the Indian Armed Forces’ commitment to harnessing Nari Shakti across all domains. Squadron Leader Bhawana Kanth, Colonel Ponung Doming, and Lieutenant Commander Annu Prakash took part in various seminars, particularly in the International Women in Defence-themed events.
Squadron Leader Bhawana Kanth, an Indian Air Force fighter pilot, captivated the audience as a panelist at the seminar titled ‘International Women in Defence – Investing in an Inclusive Future’, hosted by Saudi Ambassador to the United States Princess Reema bint Bandar Al-Saud. She shared her journey of breaking barriers and becoming one of India’s esteemed fighter pilots, leaving a lasting impression with her insights on leadership and resilience.
Colonel Ponung Doming, from the Indian Army, made history as the first woman officer to command the world’s highest Border Task Force, showcasing her exemplary leadership in challenging environments.
Lieutenant Commander Annu Prakash of the Indian Navy highlighted the crucial role women play in maritime security, fostering collaboration between India and other nations in the maritime domain.
Their participation underscores the growing role of Indian women in defense, inspiring future generations. The trio will share their experiences with 600 school children at the International Indian School, Riyadh, on February 08, 2024, amplifying their impact and inspiring young minds.
The WDS 2024, running from February 04 to February 08, 2024, is a platform for global defense collaboration. Raksha Rajya Mantri Shri Ajay Bhatt led the Indian delegation for the show, reinforcing India’s commitment to global defense cooperation.
