Jhalawar, Rajasthan, 25th July: A horrifying accident shook the government school in Piplodi village, Jhalawar district, on Friday, when the roof collapsed suddenly during “morning prayers.” Five children lost their lives instantly, while over twenty other students sustained serious injuries.

The injured were immediately rushed to nearby hospitals, where they are receiving primary medical care. Those needing advanced treatment may be transferred to larger medical centers.

Heartfelt Grief from State Leadership

Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy on X (formerly Twitter):
“The heartbreaking accident in Piplodi, Jhalawar—when the school roof collapsed—is devastating. Instructions have been issued to ensure quality treatment for the injured. May God grant peace to the departed souls and strength to their grieving families.”

Rajasthan Education Minister Madan Dilawar also conveyed his profound grief and immediately canceled his Bharatpur visit to travel to Jhalawar. He stated:
“The collapse of a school roof in the Manohar police station area is extremely distressing. I am heading to the scene immediately to assess the situation.” The Education Secretary had already been dispatched to the site.

Collapse Occurred During Morning Prayer

According to Minister Dilawar, the incident occurred while approximately 38 students were standing in prayer inside the school. Without warning, the roof came crashing down. This alarming event highlights the precarious condition of the school buildings and raises serious concerns about safety standards in government schools

Call for Thorough Investigation & Preventive Measures

Recognizing the gravity of the incident, the Education Minister has directed the Ministry of Education to commission an in-depth inquiry into the causes of the collapse. The purpose is to identify reasons and find ways to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

There is growing expectation that the government will prioritize proper maintenance, regular inspections, and repairs in structurally weak schools.
