New Delhi, 1st Feb. The top leaders of the opposition bloc INDIA on Wednesday evening gathered to discuss the situation that has arisen after the resignation and arrest of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren.
The meeting took place at the residence of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and was attended by Sonia Gandhi, CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury, NCP supremo Sharad Pawar, and DMK leader T R Baalu, among others.
Soren’s Jharkhand Mukti Morcha is a member of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA), which was formed by over two dozen opposition parties to collectively challenge the BJP in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in April-May.
Soren was arrested on Wednesday in connection with a money laundering case related to alleged land fraud, shortly after resigning as the Jharkhand chief minister. The name of State transport minister Champai Soren has been proposed as the new chief minister.
The Congress is a part of the ruling coalition in Jharkhand.
