Kokrajhar (Assam), 13th March: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for multiple development projects worth over ₹4,570 crore in Kokrajhar, Assam, aimed at strengthening infrastructure and accelerating growth in the Bodoland region.

Addressing the gathering via video conferencing due to inclement weather, the Prime Minister said the initiatives would significantly boost connectivity, economic development and public infrastructure across the region.

“Kokrajhar is closely associated with the glorious Bodo culture,” Modi said, noting that the Bodo community has played a key role in preserving its language, traditions and cultural heritage.

The Prime Minister highlighted that more than ₹1,100 crore has been allocated to strengthen the road network in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). Several projects launched under the Asom Mala programme are expected to improve road connectivity and facilitate smoother transportation across the state.

Modi also underlined the importance of improving railway connectivity in the region. He said new rail initiatives and the development of infrastructure, including a railway workshop and better station facilities, would help transform Kokrajhar into a key logistics and trade hub.

“Today Bodoland has set out on the path of peace and development; Assam is writing a new chapter of peace and prosperity,” the Prime Minister said, referring to the transformation in the region following the 2020 Bodo Peace Accord.

He noted that the agreement had brought several groups together and enabled thousands of former insurgents to join the mainstream, paving the way for long-term stability and development in the region.

Highlighting the government’s efforts to recognise the identity of the Bodo community, Modi said the traditional Bathou faith has received respect at the national level and steps are being taken to preserve cultural and spiritual heritage sites associated with the community.

The Prime Minister also praised the state government for its development initiatives and efforts to provide land rights to indigenous communities.

Modi said the ongoing infrastructure push, improved connectivity and economic initiatives would help farmers, boost trade and promote tourism in the region.

“We must continue to accelerate the pace of Assam’s development. With the blessings of the people of Assam, the resolve for a ‘Viksit Assam’ will surely be fulfilled,” he said.
