New Delhi, 14th Jan.Pollution is a major problem in New Delhi, the capital city of India, which is a very crowded city. A few months prior to Diwali last year, the city’s air pollution started to worsen, and the air got so poisonous that the citizens began to seriously risk their health.
Delhi Air Quality ‘Severe’ Again
The government was forced to impose limitations, one of which was GRAP 3. When the city’s AQI levels decreased, these limitations were lifted; however, as the temperature is dropping and there is a lot of fog, the AQI levels have also increased, returning the pollution too ‘severe’. The state administration reinstated GRAP 3 limitations.
As previously stated, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) reinstated GRAP-3 limitations in the nation’s capital on Sunday, citing the return of the air quality to “severe.” All non-essential construction activities and the use of BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel cars in the Delhi-NCR

“CAQM Sub-Committee for operationalization of GRAP called on an emergency meeting this morning in view of the sudden deterioration of air quality of Delhi-NCR from last evening,” the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) is quoted as saying in a Hindustan Times report. With immediate effect, the Subcommittee resolves to implement an 8-point action plan throughout the entire NCR in accordance with Stage III of the amended GRAP.”
Parts of North India Have No Visibility
On Sunday morning, people in North India awoke to a dense fog and very cold weather. Visibility has been significantly impacted by a heavy layer of fog that has covered numerous northern and eastern states of the nation. This winter, zero-meter visibility has been observed for the first time in a number of North Indian towns, including Bareilly, Lucknow, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Tezpur (Assam), Ganganagar, Patiala, Ambala, Chandigarh, Palam, Safdarjung, and Bareilly. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued weather warnings due to the concerning fog condition. In several areas of Purnea, Dibrugarh, Kailashahar, and Agartala, visibility decreased to 25 metres. According to Northern Railways, the poor visibility has also caused at least 22 trains from different sections of the nation to be delayed as they approach the nation’s capital. In addition, flights have been delayed, and all travellers are advised to avoid Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport.
