Kolkata, 23rd Jan. Trinamool Congress leader Kunal Ghosh has slammed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for mentioning a death date in his tribute to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose on his birth anniversary. Ghosh accused the Congress of perpetuating ambiguity over Netaji’s mysterious disappearance.
In a post on X, Ghosh said, “The Congress has always covered up the suspense over Netaji’s death. Keeping the same position intact, Rahul Gandhi declared Netaji’s death date. He should immediately apologise and correct his post.”
Earlier, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her regret during celebrations in Alipurduar, stating, “We regret that while we know when he was born… we do not know how, or if, he died. This sadness will remain.”
The controversy arose after Rahul Gandhi’s post honoring Netaji included a death date—August 18, 1945—a detail many historians and experts dispute. Gandhi’s tribute read: “Heartfelt tribute to the great revolutionary, founder of Azad Hind Fauj, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose… My respectful salute to the immortal son of Mother India, Jai Hind!”
The inclusion of the contested death date has reignited the debate over Netaji’s fate. While January 23 is celebrated as his birth anniversary, the circumstances of his death remain shrouded in mystery, with theories suggesting he may have faked his death to seek refuge in Russia.
