New Delhi, 10th Feb: Tina Ambani, wife of businessman Anil Ambani, on Tuesday did not appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED), which is probing an alleged ₹40,000-crore money-laundering case linked to the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG).

According to sources, the agency is likely to issue fresh summons to her in connection with the ongoing investigation.

The ED has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the alleged banking and corporate fraud involving ADAG and its associated entities. The SIT, led by an additional director-rank officer in the headquarters investigation unit, includes several investigators tasked with examining the case, sources said.

The development follows directions from the Supreme Court, which last week asked the ED to set up an SIT to conduct a “fair, independent, prompt and dispassionate” probe. The court also instructed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is separately investigating the group, to examine possible nexus, collusion, connivance, and conspiracy and take the inquiry to its logical conclusion.

The ED has been probing Anil Ambani and his group companies since last year. So far, it has registered three Enforcement Case Information Reports (ECIRs) under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act and attached assets worth around ₹12,000 crore.

Anil Ambani, 66, was questioned by the agency last year over alleged bank loan irregularities involving group firms. The ED also recently arrested Punit Garg, a former senior executive and ex-president of Reliance Communications.

The Anil Ambani Group has denied any wrongdoing in earlier statements.
