Dhaka, 5th Jan: Bangladesh’s elite security force, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), has arrested three prime accused in the brutal killing of Khokon Das (50), a pharmacy owner and bKash agent from Shariatpur, the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing said on Sunday.

According to RAB-8 and intelligence officials, a team from RAB-14’s CPC-2 Kishoreganj Camp, led by Company Commander ASP Shahjahan, carried out a late-night operation around 1:00 am on Saturday and arrested the accused — identified as Sohag, Rabbi and Palash — from the Bajitpur area of Kishoreganj.

Shariatpur Superintendent of Police Rawnak Jahan said Khokon Das had named the attackers before his death. Das, son of Paresh Das, was returning home on the night of December 31, 2025, after closing his medicine shop at Keherbhanga Bazaar when he was suddenly attacked near the Tilai area by 3–4 assailants armed with sharp weapons. He sustained multiple injuries and was robbed of the cash he was carrying.

Realising that the victim had recognised some of them, the attackers allegedly poured petrol on his body and face and set him on fire in an attempt to kill him. Hearing his screams, locals rushed to the spot, forcing the attackers to flee.

Das was initially admitted to Shariatpur Sadar Hospital in a critical condition and later referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Police said the arrested men are locally known as hooligans and are reportedly involved in drug abuse. Meanwhile, Das’s nephew-in-law, Pranto Das, demanded a thorough investigation and strict punishment for all those involved in the killing.
