Jerusalem, 25th Feb: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a Special Plenary of the Knesset, becoming the first Indian Prime Minister to speak in Israel’s Parliament.
He was received by Speaker Amir Ohana and accorded a ceremonial welcome. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Opposition Leader Yair Lapid addressed the House before Modi’s speech, expressing bipartisan support for bilateral ties.
Prime Minister Modi thanked the Speaker for the honour and dedicated the “Speaker of the Knesset” medal to the enduring friendship and shared democratic traditions of the two nations.
Highlighting strong civilisational links and contemporary cooperation in defence, innovation, agriculture and technology, he emphasised vibrant people-to-people ties and the contribution of the Indian community in Israel and the Jewish diaspora in India.
Reaffirming the shared stance of zero tolerance towards terrorism, he conveyed condolences over the October 7 terror attack and said there can be no justification for such acts. He reiterated India’s support for peace and stability in the region and called for deeper cooperation under frameworks such as IMEC and I2U2.
The Prime Minister also sought early finalisation of a Free Trade Agreement and expanded collaboration in trade, green growth, start-ups and emerging technologies, underscoring a shared vision for a secure and innovative future.
