New Delhi, 27th Jan. The Purple Revolution that has been sparked by the growth of lavender in Jammu and Kashmir was highlighted in the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research’s Republic Day Tableau. Thanks to the scientific interventions of CSIR, lavender has grown astronomically and products have been developed, bringing lavender from the lab to the market and spawning multiple agri-start-ups in J&K. The Tableau also included the first tiny, women-friendly electric tractor made in India by the CSIR. The beautifully stunning Tableau complements the Republic Day Parade 2024’s Viksit Bharat theme.

In addition to offering farmers free seedlings and comprehensive agro-technologies, the CSIR created an exceptional type of lavender that is ideal for growing in J&K’s temperate zones. It also established distillation facilities for the extraction of essential oils in various J&K regions. The nickname “Purple Revolution” was given to J&K due to the success of its lavender farming.

The front portion of Tableau featured a large lavender field along with a J&K figure of a strong, modern-day farmer woman. The middle segment showed farmers working on the lavender farmland, as well as scientific interventions by CSIR scientists and the provision of high-quality planting materials to a farmer.

The CSIR PRIMA ET11, India’s first women-friendly small electric tractor, was on display under the category of agro-mechanical technology. The distillation apparatus used to extract essential oil from lavender flowers was also displayed, showcasing advances in agro-technical fields.

The idea of agri-start-ups in India and the export of goods based on lavender (fragrances, oil, incense sticks) is presented in the back section. The all-female CSIR Tableau highlighted accomplishments made possible by government programs such as Naari Shakti, agri-start-ups, global business, and scientific advancements that raise farmer incomes.
