New Delhi, 23rd Aug: Congress leader Shashi Tharoor has welcomed the appointment of Sergio Gor as the new US Ambassador to India. On Saturday, Tharoor said it was a “good thing” that the long-vacant position was finally being filled.

His comments were a response to a social media post by Indian-origin venture capitalist Asha Jadeja Motwani. Motwani praised Gor’s appointment, calling it a major win for India-US relations. She described Gor as one of the most important people in President Donald Trump’s inner circle, stating that his appointment would give India direct access to the highest levels of the US administration.

What Tharoor Said
Responding to Motwani, Shashi Tharoor said, “Asha Jadeja’s views are interesting. In any case, it is a good thing that we will finally have a US Ambassador. If the Assistant Secretary of State for South Asia is also appointed soon, we might have a more stable set of interlocutors!”

Motwani’s post outlined five key benefits of Gor’s appointment. These included faster communication with Washington, more pressure on Indian companies to invest in the US, and a growing interest from American tech firms in the Indian market.

In her post, Motwani wrote, “India has gained the most powerful US ambassador in recent history. This is our opportunity to ensure our communication is absolutely clear… What we could not communicate in the last few months, we can communicate in a matter of hours once Sergio is in place.”

The 38-year-old Gor served as the White House Director of Presidential Personnel and played a key role in Trump’s 2024 election campaign. His influence reportedly grew after he oversaw the vetting of political appointments in the new administration.
