Kananaskis, Canada, 18th June: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today addressed the Outreach Session of the G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Canada, focusing on “Energy Security: Diversification, Technology and Infrastructure to Ensure Access and Affordability in a Changing World.”
Thanking Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney for the invitation and congratulating G7 on its 50th anniversary, Modi underscored the pressing global challenges in energy security. He highlighted India’s inclusive approach—rooted in availability, accessibility, affordability, and acceptability—and reaffirmed the country’s leadership in sustainable growth, noting that India met its Paris climate goals ahead of schedule.
The Prime Minister emphasized India’s commitment to a green future through initiatives like the International Solar Alliance, Global Biofuels Alliance, One Sun One World One Grid, Mission LiFE, and Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure. He called on global leaders to strengthen these efforts for a sustainable future.
Raising the issue of global conflicts and their impact on the Global South, Modi said India had made it a priority to amplify the voices of the developing world. He urged the global community to acknowledge the realities and challenges of the Global South to build a truly inclusive future.
On terrorism, PM Modi condemned the recent Pahalgam terror attack, calling it an attack not just on India but on all humanity. He called for decisive global action against nations that support terrorism and stressed that double standards must end. “Will countries understand the grave threat posed by terrorism only when they become targets?” he questioned, adding, “How can perpetrators of terror and its victims be equated?”
He also addressed the critical link between technology, AI, and energy. While acknowledging AI’s role in driving innovation, he cautioned that it is energy-intensive and must be aligned with clean and green practices. He advocated for global governance frameworks for AI and emphasized the need for secure supply chains of critical minerals, pointing out India’s wealth of diverse and quality data as a vital asset for responsible AI development.
PM Modi concluded by stating that in a technology-led world, cooperation is key. “People and the planet must be at the center of progress,” he said, urging a united global effort to shape a resilient, sustainable future.
