Gurugram, July 10: In a chilling incident that has stunned the nation, 25-year-old Radhika Yadav—a rising star in Haryana’s tennis circuit—was brutally shot dead by her own father inside their upscale Gurugram residence on Thursday. The accused, Deepak Yadav, has been arrested and the licensed weapon used in the crime seized by police.

The murder took place in G Block of Sushant Lok Phase 2 around midday. Neighbours reported hearing three gunshots, following which Radhika was found lying in a pool of blood. She was reportedly shot at point-blank range. Rushed to the hospital by family members, she was declared brought dead.

Deepak Yadav, the father, has not revealed a clear motive, but early reports suggest growing friction between him and Radhika over her frequent use of Instagram and obsession with making “reels.” Sources claim he disapproved of her social media presence, believing it tarnished the family’s image and distracted her from her tennis career.

Police are still investigating the incident but confirmed that the murder weapon—a licensed revolver—was registered in Deepak’s name. “The accused is in custody, and further interrogation is underway. We are also examining digital evidence to understand the sequence of events,” said a senior Gurugram police officer.

Radhika was a state-level tennis player known for her sharp gameplay and disciplined coaching. She ran a tennis academy for young athletes in Gurugram and had represented Haryana in multiple national tournaments. Friends and trainees are devastated, describing her as passionate, focused, and a role model for many girls in the state.

This incident has reignited debate over social media obsession and generational clashes within Indian households. “This was not just a crime; it was a complete collapse of communication and emotional restraint,” said a family counsellor following the case.

While the nation mourns the loss of a budding sportswoman, the brutality of the act—coming from her own father—has left many grappling with questions of mental health, control, and familial violence in modern India.

As Radhika’s body lies at the morgue for post-mortem, a promising career, a young life, and a dream have been tragically cut short—not by fate, but by family.
