Hyderabad, 15th Jan: Tension gripped the Puranapul Darwaza area of Hyderabad late last night after unidentified persons vandalised a temple, triggering concern among residents and leading to a gathering near the site.

According to the police, the damage was noticed late in the evening, following which authorities were alerted. Soon after, local residents assembled at the spot, expressing anger and concern over the incident. Police teams rushed to the area and managed to bring the situation under control.

Senior police officials supervised the restoration of the damaged idol and assured residents of strict action against those responsible. Additional police forces were deployed in and around Puranapul as a precautionary measure to prevent any escalation.

On Tuesday morning, AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi visited the area, reviewed the situation and interacted with local residents and police officials. He appealed to people to maintain calm and cooperate with authorities, stating that peace must be preserved and the police were handling the matter.

Police confirmed that an investigation is underway to identify the culprits and urged the public not to believe or spread rumours.

Meanwhile, the incident took a political turn with the BJP accusing the Congress-led Telangana government of failing to maintain law and order. In a post on X, the Telangana BJP alleged systematic desecration of temples in the state and charged the government with allowing “extremist forces” to operate freely.

Telangana BJP chief N Ramachander Rao also visited the spot and criticised the Congress government, asserting that the BJP would “stand resolutely” to safeguard temples in the state.

Authorities said the situation remains under control and further steps are being taken to ensure peace in the area.
