Patna, 22nd Oct: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav on Wednesday made a major election promise — to regularise all contractual workers in Bihar if the Mahagathbandhan comes to power.
Speaking at a press conference in Patna, Yadav said thousands of contract employees face job insecurity and unfair treatment. “Many are removed without reason, and 18% GST is deducted from their salaries. Women workers don’t even get two days’ leave in a month,” he said.
He added that under his government, every contractual employee will be made permanent. Yadav blamed corruption among officials for blocking regular appointments, saying, “If the government collects 18% GST from their salaries, why not give them permanent jobs?”
The former Deputy Chief Minister also announced major welfare plans for Jeevika Didis, members of women’s self-help groups. If elected, his government will provide:
-
₹30,000 monthly salary
-
Two-year interest-free loans
-
Waiver of existing loan interest
-
₹5 lakh insurance cover per member
Yadav also launched the ‘MAA Scheme’, saying it stands for Makaan (house), Anaj (food), and Aamdani (income). Under the plan, women without homes will get financial aid of ₹2,500 per month — ₹30,000 a year — and ₹1.5 lakh over five years.
He reiterated his earlier ‘Beti’ and ‘MAA’ schemes, promising continuous support for girls “from birth till employment” and housing and income security for women.
Earlier this month, Yadav had also pledged to pass a law ensuring at least one government job per family within 20 days of forming the government. “The NDA has failed Bihar’s youth for 20 years. We will act in 20 days and implement it fully within 20 months,” he said.
He reminded voters that his earlier government had created five lakh jobs, adding, “Imagine what we could do with a full five-year term.”
