Patna, 10th Aug: The political controversy over Bihar’s voter list revision has escalated, with RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav now claiming that Deputy Chief Minister and BJP leader Vijay Kumar Sinha holds two Electors Photo Identity Cards (EPIC).
In a press conference this morning, Tejashwi Yadav alleged that Sinha has two EPIC numbers registered in two different Assembly segments, with different ages listed on each card. Yadav cited the EPIC number for the Bankipur segment as AFS0853341, where Sinha’s age is listed as 60, and another in Lakhisarai, IAF3939337, where his age is 57. “So, either he has signed documents for the issue of both these EPIC numbers or the whole Special Intensive Revision process is a fraud,” Yadav said.
Sinha has strongly denied any wrongdoing. In a press meet held shortly after Yadav’s allegations, he said his family previously lived in the Bankipur Assembly area and he had already filled up a form to have his name deleted from that constituency’s voter list after finding his name featured in both places. Hitting back at the RJD leader, Sinha used the “jungle raj” barb, stating, “Jungle raj’s prince commits fraud. We don’t commit such actions.”
The new allegation follows the Election Commission’s earlier request for an explanation from Yadav himself, asking him to provide details of a “fake” EPIC card he had mentioned in a previous press conference. Yadav had previously alleged that his name was not on the new draft voter list, though the poll body later confirmed his name was present under a new EPIC number. Yadav has now questioned whether the poll body would be as swift to take action against Sinha as it was with him.
