Mumbai, 23rd July: Tanushree Dutta, the actress who spearheaded the 2018 #MeToo movement in Bollywood, on Tuesday shared a disturbing video on Instagram, in which she is seen crying inconsolably and pleading for help. Dutta alleged that she has been enduring harassment in her own home for the past four to five years and has sought police intervention.

In the video, a visibly distressed Tanushree states, “Guys, I’m being harassed in my own home. I just called the cops. I got worried and called the police. The police came. They asked me to come to the police station to launch a proper complaint. I’m probably going tomorrow or the day after. I’m not well. I’ve been harassed so much in the last 4-5 years that my health has deteriorated.”

She further detailed her difficulties, mentioning her inability to hire maids due to past negative experiences, including allegations of theft and sabotage. “I’m not able to do any work. My house is a mess. I can’t hire even maids because they planted maids in my house. I had such a bad experience with maids coming in and stealing and doing all kinds of things. I have to do all my work. People come outside my door… I’m being troubled in my own house,” she explained, reiterating her plea for assistance: “Please, someone help me!”

In the video’s caption, Dutta wrote, “I’m sick and tired of this harassment!! It’s been going on since 2018 #metoo. Aaj fed up hokar maine police ko call kiya. Please someone help me! Do something before it’s too late.”

Tanushree also outlined hours of ordeal in an Instagram Story, detailing “Loud noises like this and other very very loud banging noises at all odd hours for the last couple of years!! I got tired of complaning to the building management and gave up. Today this was going on all day, I was so unwell and couldn’t even rest. Then some random people came to my door and started ringing bell despite giving instruction of Do Not Disturb!!”

Dutta had first accused actor Nana Patekar of sexual harassment during the shooting of a special song for their 2009 film Horn ‘Ok’ Pleassss in a 2018 Zoom interview. Patekar has consistently denied all claims. While she initially filed a complaint with the Cine and TV Artistes Association in 2008, no action was taken as it was deemed a criminal case. In October 2018, Dutta’s advocate requested narco-analysis, brain mapping, and lie detector tests for Patekar and others involved. However, in June 2019, Patekar was cleared by the Mumbai police, who filed a B-Summary report suggesting Dutta’s complaint could be “malicious” and “out of revenge.”

Her sister, Ishita Dutta, also an actor, had spoken to IANS in 2019 about Tanushree’s resilience, recalling a 2008 incident where police intervention prevented worse outcomes during an attack on Tanushree’s car.

Tanushree Dutta is known for her roles in films such as Aashiq Banaya Apne, Dhol, and Bhagam Bhag. She also held the title of Femina Miss India Universe 2004.
