Tamil Nadu Assembly Passes Bill to Scrap NEET

Chennai, 13th Sep. Tamil Nadu Assembly passes a Bill to scrap NEET; enables admissions to MBBS/BDS based on class 12th marks.

All other parties except the BJP supported this bill. The bill suggests admission in medical courses on the basis of class 12th marks.

Presenting the bill in the assembly, Chief Minister MK Stalin urged other parties to support the bill. Stalin said the government is trying to bring in the admission process for medical seats on the basis of class 12 marks.

AIADMK supported the Bill while the BJP staged a walkout.

Earlier, on Saturday, 19-year-old Dhanush, aspiring for a medical seat in Kuliyur village of Tamil Nadu’s Salem district, was found dead at his home. Police sources said the deceased Dhanush was to appear for his third attempt at the national entrance exam on Sunday. Dhanush had cleared his class 12 exam in 2019 and was preparing for the exam on Sunday. However, in the morning when his parents went to wake him up, he was found dead. The police reached his house and the body was taken to the Government General Hospital in Mettur. A case has been registered and the police are probing the matter.
