Kabul, 14th Oct. After a meeting with US and European Union (EU) officials, a Taliban delegation has urged both sides to lift sanctions on the Afghan Islamic Emirate and allow banks in the country to operate normally.

According to a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry of the Taliban-led government, the delegation led by Acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaki held talks with officials in Doha on Tuesday, TOLO News reported. Muttaki said payment of salaries of civil servants and restarting unfinished economic projects are his government’s top priorities.

TOLO News quoted the minister as saying, “In this regard, we urge the countries of the world to end the current restrictions and allow banks to operate normally.”

“It is not in anyone’s interest to weaken the Afghan government because its negative effects will directly affect economic migration from the world and the country in the security sector,” he said.

Some of the issues discussed during the meeting included the current situation in Afghanistan under Taliban rule, including relations with other countries, economic difficulties, resumption of humanitarian aid and unfinished development projects.

In addition to the meeting on Tuesday, the Taliban delegation and the US side also met in the Qatari capital during the weekend.
