Bengaluru, 10th Feb. A technical glitch on the Swiggy Instamart app led to users receiving massive discount coupons, allowing them to place orders almost free of cost. The issue came to light when a Reddit user shared screenshots of the unexpected bonanza.
A post titled “Someone is definitely losing their job at Swiggy” showcased a banner on the app reading: “Enjoy up to ₹5,00,000 in free cash. Applied on your next order above ₹199.” Users reportedly received amounts ranging from ₹4,000 to ₹5,00,000 as ‘free cash’ and placed heavily discounted orders, with some transactions reducing from ₹56,347 to ₹1.
However, the excitement was short-lived as Swiggy allegedly began calling customers, requesting them to return the items purchased using the erroneous discount. The post went viral, with users debating whether it was a marketing stunt or a genuine error.
One user speculated, “This could be a marketing stunt,” while another joked, “Ok Swiggy PR Team, we get it, now stop posting everywhere.”
This isn’t the first controversy for Swiggy Instamart. Previously, a customer sparked debate after complaining about unremovable free tomatoes in his cart, calling it a “dark pattern” of forced additions.
Swiggy has yet to officially respond to the latest glitch incident.
