Sweeping Raids Against PFI in 6 States

New Delhi, 27th Sept. Police and other investigative agencies conducted raids across several states on Tuesday in another major crackdown on the Popular Front of India (PFI).

Raids are currently taking place in Assam, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh.

During state-wide raids in Karnataka, more than 75 PFI workers and leaders from its political wing, the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), were taken into preventive custody, according to a police official.

Alok Kumar, ADGP Law and Order, Bengaluru said, “Over 75 PFI and SDPI workers and leaders have been taken into preventive custody, including the SDPI Yadgiri district president. The police raids are underway across the state. The cases have been booked under sections 108, 151 CrPC.”

In addition to other districts in the state, the police conducted raids in Devanahalli, Bengaluru Rural, Chikkaballapur, Chitradurga, Raichur, Hassan, Bellary, Bagalkot, and Koppal.

Mohmad Ismail, the former president of the PFI from the Raichur District, was also detained and put in judicial custody, according to Alok Kumar ADGP, Bengaluru. While two PFI leaders have been detained in Chamarajanagar, three PFI leaders have been detained in Mysore. Eight PFI leaders, including the district president of Mangalore, have been detained. Nine people from Bengaluru Rural, three from Chickaballapur, and four from Hoskote have been detained.

In Uttar Pradesh, the state’s ATS and the UP Special Task Force apprehended more than a dozen PFI leaders in raids across the state, according to police sources.

The ATS and local police continued their crackdown on the Popular Front of India in Maharashtra, conducting raids in various parts of the state and arresting various people associated with the organization.

“In many parts of the state, ATS and local police are conducting raids on people associated with PFI,” the ATS said.

Thane Police reported that its crime branch had arrested four PFI associates.

The Nashik Police also detained two people associated with the organization. Both arrested individuals will appear in court later today.

One of the two individuals, identified as Mohammed Irfan, was previously booked by the Nashik Police for holding an illegal rally in May of this year.

According to local police, there were inputs that some people associated with PFI were involved in illegal activities.

Raids are also taking place in Malegaon.

The raids today were part of the NIA and ED’s crackdown on the PFI that began on September 22.

During its largest-ever raids across 15 states, the NIA apprehended over 106 PFI members.

In the largest investigation process to date, searches were conducted in multiple locations.

The operation began late at night at around 1 a.m. and was learnt to be concluded by 5 a.m., involving over 1,500 personnel from state police, Central Armed Police Forces, and NIA and ED officers.

The raiding teams seized several incriminating documents, as well as over 100 mobile phones, laptop computers, and other materials.

These searches were carried out at the homes and offices of individuals involved in “funding terrorism, organizing training camps, and radicalizing people to join proscribed organizations.”
