New Delhi, 11th Sept: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday extended greetings to Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on his 75th birthday, describing him as a staunch supporter of Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat.
In a special message, PM Modi said Bhagwat has dedicated his entire life to strengthening the spirit of equality, harmony, and fraternity, inspired by the mantra of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam. The Prime Minister wished him long life and good health.
In a blog written on the occasion, PM Modi recalled that September 11 is linked with multiple historic memories — Swami Vivekananda’s 1893 speech in Chicago spreading the message of universal brotherhood, and the 9/11 terrorist attack that struck at the very essence of global harmony. He called Bhagwat a personality who, guided by the same spirit of brotherhood, has devoted his life to organising society and promoting social unity.
Tracing Bhagwat’s journey, PM Modi highlighted his work as a pracharak in Maharashtra’s rural and backward areas during the Emergency, his leadership as Akhil Bharatiya Sharirik Pramukh in the 1990s, and his elevation as Sarkaryawah in 2000 before becoming Sarsanghchalak in 2009.
The Prime Minister wrote that Bhagwat’s tenure marked a period of transformation within the RSS, including changes in uniforms, training modules, and greater youth outreach. Modi also credited him for guiding the organisation’s service efforts during the Covid-19 pandemic, strengthening volunteer work, and promoting use of technology.
Calling him a “visionary and dedicated leader,” PM Modi noted Bhagwat’s emphasis on Panch Parivartan — self-awareness, social harmony, civic discipline, family values, and environmental protection — as guiding principles for nation-building. He further lauded Bhagwat’s support for national movements like Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao, his commitment to sustainable lifestyles, and his advocacy for Atmanirbhar Bharat.
PM Modi said that under Bhagwat’s leadership, the RSS is marking its centenary year, which coincides with Vijayadashami, Gandhi Jayanti, and Lal Bahadur Shastri Jayanti. He called it a historic occasion for millions of swayamsevaks worldwide.
Born on September 11, 1950, in Maharashtra’s Chandrapur district, Bhagwat has been leading the RSS for over 16 years. He is the third longest-serving RSS chief after M.S. Golwalkar and Balasaheb Deoras. His father, Madhukar Rao Bhagwat, was also a full-time pracharak.
