Lakhisarai, 6th Nov: Tension gripped Lakhisarai this afternoon after slippers and stones were thrown at the convoy of Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha, who was visiting polling booths in his home constituency during the first phase of the assembly elections. Slogans of “murdabad” were raised as a crowd blocked his vehicle, sparking a political war of words amid tight polling security.

Sinha, a senior BJP leader and three-time MLA from Lakhisarai, alleged that the attack was orchestrated by goons backed by the opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). “The NDA government is coming back to power in Bihar. We will run bulldozers on their chest,” he said, visibly enraged after the incident. He further claimed incidents of booth capturing and intimidation of polling agents, saying, “My polling agent was thrown out of the booth. People are not being allowed to vote.”

However, district police officials dismissed the allegations, stating that voting was proceeding peacefully. “We came here and found that voting is being held smoothly. If anyone were stopped, there would not be a queue,” said District Police Chief Ajay Kumar. Refuting Sinha’s claims, the officer added that no BJP agent was intimidated. “If there’s any complaint, we’ll take action. The situation is under control.”

The Deputy Chief Minister reacted sharply to the officer’s statement, calling him a “coward” and a “weakling” for failing to act against the protesters. Police later confirmed that Sinha’s convoy had indeed faced protests and said an investigation was underway.

Sinha, who faces Congress candidate Amaresh Kumar and Jan Suraaj Party’s Suraj Kumar in a triangular contest, is seeking a fresh mandate from Lakhisarai.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) took note of the incident, with Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar directing the Bihar DGP to ensure immediate action and maintain order. “No one will be allowed to take the law into their own hands,” the ECI said in a statement.

District Magistrate Mithilesh Mishra assured that both candidates and voters’ rights would be safeguarded. “Every candidate has the right to visit their constituency. We will investigate any complaint and maintain peace,” he said.

Deputy Inspector General (Munger Range) Rakesh Kumar also visited the area and confirmed that polling across Munger, Lakhisarai, and Sheikhpura remained peaceful. “Whoever is responsible for this incident will face strict action,” he said, adding that an investigation is underway.
