Dharmapuri, 17th Aug: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Sunday launched a blistering attack on Governor R N Ravi, accusing him of engaging in “cheaper politics” than even the opposition parties. Stalin alleged that the Raj Bhavan was being used to spread misinformation against the DMK-led government, insult Tamil culture, and block welfare-oriented legislations.
Speaking at a government event to mark the launch of new social welfare schemes, Stalin listed various initiatives rolled out under the Dravidian model of governance and asserted that Tamil Nadu had become a role model for the entire country.
“There is someone doing cheaper politics than the opposition, you know who it is. It is Governor R N Ravi, appointed by the Union BJP government. From Raj Bhavan, he spreads canards against the DMK, disrespects Tamil anthem, and maligns Tamil Nadu students,” Stalin charged.
The Chief Minister accused Ravi of making unfounded allegations on education, law and order, and women’s safety in his Independence Day address, saying such remarks only created panic.
Stalin countered Ravi’s claims, citing Union government data and the National Crime Records Bureau. He noted Tamil Nadu ranks second in school education and has attracted investments worth ₹10 lakh crore in the past four years due to strong law and order. On women’s safety, he said BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh topped the list of crimes against women, urging the Governor to “target BJP-ruled states instead.”
The Chief Minister further alleged that the BJP was using the Governor to undermine Tamil pride and sentiments. “The Union BJP government is carrying out its cheap politics through the Governor who is constantly functioning against Tamil Nadu and its people,” he said.
Despite the attacks, Stalin remarked that Ravi’s presence “only strengthens the Dravidian movement.” “He is ensuring that our fire for the language, race and ideology burns bright. Let him talk, I am not bothered,” Stalin said.
On governance, Stalin highlighted flagship welfare measures such as Ungaludan Stalin, Nalan Kakkum Stalin, Thayumanavar Scheme and the Vidiyal Payanam free bus travel for women, which he said was being emulated in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
Earlier in the day, Stalin inaugurated completed projects worth ₹367.77 crore and laid the foundation for projects worth ₹512 crore in the district. He also launched an interest-free crop loan initiative for farmers applying online under a pilot scheme in Dharmapuri.
