New Delhi, 17th Oct: NITI Aayog on Wednesday hosted the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Dr. Harini Nireka Amarasuriya, in New Delhi to explore avenues for deeper cooperation in infrastructure, education, tourism, skill development, and artificial intelligence.
In her remarks, Dr. Amarasuriya lauded NITI Aayog’s role as India’s key policy think tank and coordination hub, highlighting its success in linking evidence-based policymaking with implementation at both central and state levels. She also reflected on Sri Lanka’s own reform efforts and emphasized the importance of policy continuity beyond political cycles.
The discussions, chaired by NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Shri Suman K. Bery, covered India’s flagship initiatives such as PM Gati Shakti, the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, digital governance, and AI-driven innovation. Presentations focused on India–Sri Lanka bilateral cooperation, especially under the Economic and Technology Cooperation Agreement (ETCA), and opportunities to replicate India’s multimodal logistics model in Sri Lankan cities like Kandy.
Both sides also explored expanding collaboration in tourism, cultural heritage, and wellness initiatives to boost people-to-people ties.
The visit reaffirmed India and Sri Lanka’s shared vision for a knowledge-based, sustainable, and technology-driven partnership under the Neighbourhood First and MAHASAGAR frameworks, with a focus on inclusive growth and regional stability.
