Pratapgarh, 16th Feb: A 48-year-old Samajwadi Party leader, Lal Bahadur Yadav, was killed after a high-mast light pole collapsed on his car in Uttar Pradesh’s Pratapgarh district.
According to officials, the incident occurred near a fuel pump when the high-mast pole was being erected. As Yadav drove past the site, the massive pole suddenly fell, crushing the front portion of his Hyundai Creta. He died on the spot.
Visuals from the accident site showed severe damage to the driver’s side of the vehicle, with the front windshield shattered. Although the airbags deployed, the force of the impact proved fatal.
Two motorcycles and an e-rickshaw travelling behind the car narrowly escaped the accident after their riders managed to brake in time.
Following the incident, Yadav’s relatives and supporters staged a protest, accusing the fuel pump management of negligence during the installation of the high-mast pole.
Police recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem examination. The district administration has ordered an inquiry into the incident.
