Lucknow, 11th Oct: The Samajwadi Party (SP) on Friday accused the BJP of trying to suppress opposition voices after party chief Akhilesh Yadav’s Facebook page became inaccessible for several hours.

Attempts to access the account showed either an error stating the content was unavailable or that the page could not be found. SP alleged the suspension was politically motivated, claiming it was aimed at silencing the country’s third-largest party in the Lok Sabha, with 37 MPs.

SP spokesperson Fakhrul Hasan Chaand wrote on X, “The suspension of the Facebook account of the national president of the country’s third-largest party, Akhilesh Yadav, is an attack on democracy. The BJP government has imposed an undeclared emergency in the country. However, the Samajwadi Party will continue to oppose anti-people policies of the BJP.”

He added that the party is considering legal action.

MP Rajeev Rai also condemned the suspension, saying, “Blocking the account of the leader of the third largest party in parliament is a blow to India’s democratic system. If this has been done at the behest of the ruling party, it is a sign of cowardice.”

The incident comes ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections, viewed as a crucial test for the BJP-led NDA government in the state.

The SP has previously accused the Election Commission and the BJP of attempting to influence electoral outcomes, claims both have denied.
