New Delhi, 26th March. Union Minister Smriti Irani criticized Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh for accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party government of not taking real action on women’s empowerment despite using slogans like Nari Shakti.
Irani called out Ramesh, referring to him as a loyal follower of the Gandhis, for distorting facts and undermining the efforts of the BJP government in promoting women’s welfare. She highlighted the significant work done by the BJP government for women’s empowerment.
Ramesh had criticized the Ministry of Women and Child Development, alleging failures over the past 10 years. He claimed that a Congress-led government in 2024 would end a decade of injustice towards women.
In response, Irani posted a detailed message on social media, pointing out the flaws in Ramesh’s arguments and highlighting the initiatives taken by the Modi government to support women, such as the NIRBHAYA Fund and the Emergency Response Support System.
Irani emphasized that the BJP government has made substantial progress in empowering women, unlike the previous UPA government. She also mentioned the increase in funding for women and girls under the Modi regime.
Irani further criticized Ramesh for ignoring the actions taken by the BJP government to support Anganwadi workers and women in the labor force. She highlighted the financial empowerment programs and initiatives aimed at uplifting women in India.
Irani concluded by stating that the Nari Shakti is leading the transformation in India and that the BJP government recognizes women as key contributors to the country’s progress.
Ramesh had earlier listed alleged failures of the WCD ministry, including an increase in crimes against women and children, budget constraints, mistreatment of ASHA and Anganwadi workers, rising anemia rates, and unemployment among women.
He accused Irani of remaining silent on women’s issues and diverting funds away from essential programs, only speaking up when crimes occur in states ruled by opposition parties.
The election for 543 Lok Sabha seats in the country will be conducted in seven phases, beginning on April 19. The votes will be counted on June 4.
