New Delhi, 8th Oct: Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region, Jyotiraditya Scindia, highlighted India’s emerging leadership in satellite communications (Satcom) at the Satcom Summit, held on the opening day of the Indian Mobile Congress (IMC) 2025 at Yashobhoomi, New Delhi. The summit, organized by the Ministry of Communications, saw participation from global experts discussing “Space Networks for Universal Connectivity.”
Scindia said the event marks the beginning of a revolution originating in the sky, powered by satellites, that transforms human life on the ground. “Change that begins in the sky, transforms life on Earth,” he noted, emphasizing that Satcom enables farmers in Ladakh to access real-time weather updates, fishermen in Lakshadweep to receive storm warnings, children in remote tribal villages to learn from the best teachers, and doctors to reach patients in flood-affected Assam.

The Minister underlined that India, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, is no longer just a participant but a global pace-setter in Satcom. He highlighted that 5G connectivity now reaches 99.9 percent of the population, 4.8 lakh towers have been installed nationwide, and the country is on track for the fastest Satcom rollout in the world.
Through the Digital India Fund, approximately 29,000 of 38,000 targeted remote villages—around 75 percent—have been connected, with an investment of ₹40,000 crore. Scindia emphasized that where roads cannot reach, Satcom will, ensuring true digital inclusion.

Reflecting on India’s space journey, from Aryabhatta to Chandrayaan-3, and projects like Aditya-L1, Gaganyaan, and NAVIC, the Minister said India has evolved from being a participant to a global leader in space innovation. He urged the government, industry, startups, academic institutions, and international partners to collaborate in advancing India’s Satcom mission, saying, “The sky calls upon India’s future, and it is time to respond with courage, dedication, and collaboration.”
The summit reinforced India’s commitment to using satellite technology for socio-economic development and positioning the country as a pioneer in the global Satcom revolution.
