Bengaluru, 22nd Oct: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar launched a strong rebuttal against the BJP and its Bengaluru MPs, defending the state government’s handling of city infrastructure and civic issues.
Speaking at the inauguration of road white-topping and urban development projects, Shivakumar said the Congress-led government has introduced a first-of-its-kind system enabling citizens to directly report civic issues such as potholes and garbage to officials.
“Is there any other government that allows citizens to take photos of potholes or garbage and send them to officials for action? Only under Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s leadership have we implemented such a system,” he asserted.
Highlighting the government’s progress, he said more than 10,000 potholes had already been repaired, contrasting it with the previous Basavaraj Bommai-led BJP government that admitted in court there were 20,000 potholes in Bengaluru.
Taking a dig at BJP leaders, Shivakumar mocked a Bengaluru MP, without naming anyone, as “an empty vessel who only makes noise and tweets.” He also criticised opposition MPs for their alleged lack of contribution to the city’s development.
“There are five MPs from Bengaluru. Has even one of them brought a single rupee from the Centre for the city? Nirmala Sitharaman herself is a Union Minister — have they managed to bring even 10 rupees for Bengaluru? If they have, I will accept any punishment you choose,” he said.
His remarks come amid sustained attacks from BJP leaders over Bengaluru’s road conditions, traffic congestion, and civic infrastructure management.
