Mumbai, 7th Oct. In a major political shift ahead of the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections, former Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) standing committee chairman Dipesh Pundlik Mhatre has joined the Shiv Sena (UBT) led by Uddhav Thackeray.

Mhatre, along with six other former KDMC corporators, made the switch from the faction headed by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde during an event held at Thackeray’s residence, Matoshree, on Sunday.

Mhatre, a prominent Yuva Sena office-bearer, expressed his pride in aligning with Thackeray’s leadership, stating, “We believe in the ideology of Shiv Sena (Thackeray’s party) and shall work more proactively. I assure you that I will regain the honour of Dombivli.”

Former Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray welcomed the new members, describing their joining as an important milestone for the Shiv Sena. He emphasized the need for young and dynamic leaders who can address the pressing challenges of the state, particularly in areas like education, employment, and sustainable development.

Thackeray stated, “It is time for the youth to step forward and take their rightful place in shaping the destiny of Maharashtra.”

The assembly elections for the 288-member state legislature are expected to take place next month.

The political landscape in Maharashtra has been tumultuous since the split in the Shiv Sena in June 2022, when Shinde and several MLAs rebelled against Thackeray, leading to the collapse of the Thackeray-led government and the formation of a new government in alliance with the BJP.
