Noida,19th July: A second-year Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) student of Sharda University in Greater Noida allegedly died by suicide in the women’s hostel, police said on Saturday. The student’s death is linked to a suicide note recovered from her room, in which she accused two faculty members of humiliation and mental harassment.
The incident occurred on Friday night, leading to a case being filed at the Knowledge Park Police Station in Gautam Buddha Nagar. Following protests that erupted on campus over the suicide, police arrested two staff members of the university, identified as Mahinder and Shairy.
Sharda University has issued a statement confirming that a high-power inquiry committee has been constituted to ascertain the circumstances leading to the incident and to recommend any further institutional measures. “The University is fully cooperating with statutory authorities conducting their own processes,” the Director of Public Relations stated, adding that all required documentation and access have been extended for transparent cooperation. Sources indicate that the two implicated staff members have been suspended.
Suicide Note Details Allegations
The suicide note, recovered from her hostel room and seen by NDTV, identified the student as Jyoti Sharma from Gurugram. In the note, Sharma explicitly alleged that “the teachers of PCP and Dental material are to blame.” She named the two staff members directly, holding them responsible for her death.
Greater Noida Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) Sudhir Kumar confirmed the arrests, stating, “The two staff members from the management of the university have been arrested on the basis of the complaint lodged by the family members of the student.”
