Jodhpur, 10th Jan: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah on Saturday said India is firmly on track to become the world’s third-largest economy, crediting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership for transforming the nation’s economic standing over the past decade.

Addressing the Maheshwari Global Convention and Expo 2026 in Jodhpur, Shah said India has risen from the 11th to the fourth position among global economies and is now poised for another leap.

He described the Maheshwari community as a backbone of India’s entrepreneurial spirit, noting that it has always been a job creator rather than a job seeker. From supporting kings during battles against the Mughals to financing major phases of the freedom movement, and later driving industrial growth after Independence, the community’s role has been deeply woven into India’s nation-building journey.

Shah said the Maheshwari tradition reflects a rare balance of heritage and progress. “Whether it is manufacturing, trading, wealth creation or adoption of technology, the community has consistently shown that tradition and modernity can grow together,” he said.

He underlined that India’s social communities strengthen national unity rather than weaken it. If every community uplifts its weakest members, he said, the nation’s collective strength naturally multiplies, making the goal of a self-reliant India achievable.

Calling for the adoption of Swadeshi and Swabhasha, Shah urged entrepreneurs to prioritise Indian-made products and families to nurture children in their mother tongues. He said Indian languages keep culture and identity alive and are essential for creating a rooted yet globally competitive generation.

Highlighting economic milestones, Shah said India has become a four-trillion-dollar economy, exports have doubled, manufacturing has grown by over 70 per cent, and half of the world’s digital transactions now take place in India. He added that the country ranks among the top three globally in startups, pharmaceuticals, automobiles and mobile phone manufacturing.

He said Prime Minister Modi’s vision of building a developed India by 2047 has become a shared national resolve, adding that Atmanirbhar Bharat, supported by Swadeshi consumption and expanded manufacturing, remains the only path to making India the world’s leading economy.
