New Delhi, 13th Feb: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated Seva Teerth and Kartavya Bhavan-1 and 2 in the national capital, describing the new complexes as symbols of service, duty, and commitment to the principle of India First.
Addressing the inaugural event, the Prime Minister said the new buildings had been constructed to fulfil the aspirations of the people and would mark a new chapter in India’s governance journey.
He said that as the country moves towards the goal of Viksit Bharat, it is essential to shed every trace of the colonial mindset. Recalling the renaming of Race Course Road to Lok Kalyan Marg, he said it was not just a change of name but an effort to transform the culture of power into a spirit of service.
Modi said the new Prime Minister’s Office has been named Seva Teerth, underlining that the spirit of service is the soul and identity of India. He added that the complex would constantly remind officials that governance is about service and responsibility.
The Prime Minister noted that after Independence, key decisions were taken from buildings like North Block and South Block, which were originally constructed as symbols of colonial authority. In contrast, he said, the new complexes were built to reflect the hopes and expectations of the people.
He also announced that the old buildings would be converted into a museum as part of the Yuge Yugeen Bharat Museum, preserving their historical legacy while giving them a new purpose.
Modi said the government had taken several steps in recent years to remove colonial symbols, including renaming Rajpath as Kartavya Path, creating the National War Memorial and Police Memorial, and renaming Mughal Gardens as Amrit Udyan.
He highlighted that earlier, ministries were spread across more than 50 locations in Delhi, with the government spending around ₹1,500 crore annually on rent. The new complexes would reduce costs and improve efficiency by bringing offices together, he said.
The Prime Minister stressed that governance must be driven by the principle of “Nagrik Devo Bhava,” with citizens at the centre of decision-making. He urged officials to ensure that every decision taken in the new buildings contributes to improving the lives of the people.
He said the goal of Developed India 2047 is not just an economic target but a national commitment, and every policy must be guided by the spirit of service and duty. Union ministers, parliamentarians, and senior officials attended the event.
