Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, 21st Sept: Madhubhai Kulkarni, senior pracharak of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), passed away on Thursday afternoon at the age of 88 in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar’s Devgiri province.
Born Madhav Vinayak Kulkarni on May 17, 1938 in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, he received his early education in Chikodi, Karnataka, and completed matriculation from Vidyapeeth High School, Kolhapur, in 1954. A witness to both pre- and post-independence India, he earned a B.A. from Ruia College, Mumbai, in 1958, briefly worked in the Mumbai Sales Tax Office, and completed a B.Ed. in 1960–61.
Joining the RSS as a full-time pracharak in 1962, Madhubhai held numerous responsibilities: Raver-Yawal Taluka Pracharak, Pune Mahanagar Pracharak (1980–84), Gujarat Prant Pracharak (1984–96), Western Region Pracharak (1996–2003), and All-India Intellectual Head (2003–09). He served on the Akhil Bharatiya Karyakari Mandal until 2015.
Even after stepping back from formal duties, he remained active—attending daily shakhas, travelling, mentoring youth, and writing. His book “Athato Sangh Jijnasa,” translated into multiple languages, continues to inspire new generations of swayamsevaks.
Admitted to hospital a month ago due to age-related ailments, Madhubhai stayed connected with the organisation until his final hours. The RSS has expressed deep grief and offered “vinamra shraddha suman” (humble floral tribute) to a life of unwavering service.
