Senior Journalist Indrani Sarkar Honoured by IFUNA Among 10 Women Journalists on International Women’s Day in New Delhi

New Delhi, March 9: Senior journalist Indrani Sarkar was among ten women journalists from across India honoured at a special programme organised by the Indian Federation of United Nations Associations (IFUNA) on the occasion of International Women’s Day 2026.

The programme was held on March 7 at Qutab Institutional Area, behind Qutab Hotel, New Delhi, recognising women professionals who have made notable contributions in journalism and public discourse.

IFUNA, which is affiliated with the global United Nations Associations network through the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) and holds Special Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), organised the event to acknowledge women achievers across different fields.

The honours were presented by Justice Indira Banerjee, former Judge of the Supreme Court of India and former Chief Justice of the Madras High Court, who attended the programme as the chief guest.

Addressing the gathering, Justice Banerjee highlighted the growing role of women in leadership and emphasised that women’s participation across professions is essential for building a more inclusive and progressive society.

During the programme, ten distinguished women journalists were felicitated for their commitment to responsible journalism and their contribution to strengthening democratic values through the media.

The organisers stated that the initiative aimed to celebrate women achievers in journalism and encourage greater participation of women in leadership roles across media, civil society and public life.

Indrani Sarkar is a senior Indian journalist with over two decades of experience in political, investigative and social-impact reporting. Her work has largely focused on issues related to women’s rights, gender discrimination, trafficking, governance and the protection of vulnerable communities.

Over the years, she has reported extensively on crime, social justice and humanitarian concerns, highlighting grassroots realities and under-reported stories. Her journalism has consistently emphasised public interest, accountability and the importance of bringing marginalised voices into mainstream discourse.

In addition to reporting, Sarkar has also worked as a consulting editor and communications advisor with national and international media platforms. She has represented India in discussions addressing challenges faced by women journalists, including workplace bias, pay disparity and professional safety.

Beyond journalism, she has been actively involved in awareness initiatives related to women’s empowerment, counselling support and legal awareness, working with various stakeholders to address issues affecting women and marginalised communities.
