Seminar on “Needonomics” organized by Department of Commerce and Management, Veer Kunwar Singh University Ara (Bihar)

by Prof. Madan Mohan Goel

The seminar was chaired by Prof. Sanjay Kumar Singh, Head of the Department.
The keynote address was delivered by Prof. Madan Mohan Goel, Former  Pro Vice-Chancellor of Veer Kunwar Singh University.
Prof. Goel, the propounder of the Needonomics School of Thought, a three-time Vice-Chancellor and former Pro Vice-Chancellor, stated that “Needonomics promotes simplicity, authenticity, and need-based principles, which are essential for integrity in academic research.”

Emphasizing ethical research and writing, Prof. Goel urged scholars to replace the mindset of “Publish or Perish” with “Publish with Purpose”, which aligns with the principles of Needonomics. He advised researchers to prioritize social relevance, originality, and global knowledge equity, ensuring that research remains ethical and inclusive.
Explaining the concept further, Prof. Goel said that Needonomics (Economics of Needs) encourages ethical and sustainable management of resources, distinct from profit-driven models. It focuses on fulfilling genuine needs while minimizing waste and environmental harm. Inspired by the Bhagavad Gita verse “Yogakshemam Vahamyaham,” Needonomics introduces the idea of a “Needo-Lifestyle”—encompassing Needo-consumption, Needo-saving, Needo-production, Needo-investment, Needo-trade, Needo-philanthropy, and Needo-distribution.
Prof. Goel emphasized the need for a robust research methodology for conducting empirical research on Needonomics, which can promote interdisciplinary, policy-relevant studies in various domains. He urged researchers to clearly articulate policy implications in their research abstracts and to treat ethical writing as a moral responsibility.
According to Prof. Goel, at a time when global challenges are intensifyingNeedonomics provides a guiding framework for sustainable and equitable development, reaffirming the importance of clarity, purpose, and ethical grounding in academic research.
