New Delhi, 13th Dec: The Department of Posts on Saturday issued a commemorative postage stamp to mark the 150th anniversary of the Bombay Gymkhana, paying tribute to its long-standing legacy of sporting excellence and cultural contribution.

The commemorative stamp was formally unveiled at the Bombay Gymkhana by the Union Minister of Communications and Development of North Eastern Region, Jyotiraditya M. Scindia. The event was attended by Milind Deora, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), Sanjiv Saran Mehra, President of Bombay Gymkhana, Suchita Joshi, Postmaster General, Navi Mumbai Region, along with other distinguished guests and members of the club.

Addressing the gathering, Scindia said the commemorative stamp would serve as a “travelling messenger,” carrying stories and values from hand to hand. He noted that, like sport, postage stamps have the power to inspire young boys and girls to remain active, take up sports, and believe in institutions that shape lives positively.

Drawing a parallel between India Post and the Bombay Gymkhana, the Union Minister said both institutions are deeply rooted in connecting people, conveying emotions and bridging generations. He highlighted that under the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Department of Posts is undergoing a transformative phase, expanding its service footprint and aiming to emerge as the world’s largest and most inclusive logistics organisation in the coming years.

Established in 1875, the Bombay Gymkhana has remained a prominent pillar of India’s sporting and social heritage, nurturing generations of athletes while serving as a vibrant centre for sporting and cultural activities. Over 150 years, it has played a vital role in promoting sportsmanship, camaraderie and community engagement.

The commemorative stamp features the iconic campus and grounds of the Bombay Gymkhana, symbolising its enduring heritage and contribution to India’s sporting landscape. Through this special issue, the Department of Posts has honoured the institution’s 150-year journey and reaffirmed its commitment to showcasing India’s sporting milestones through philately.

The commemorative stamp will be available to the public through Philatelic Bureaux across the country and online via the ePost Office portal.
