Gwalior, 2nd Feb.
Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, along with other dignitaries, inaugurated the Gwalior-Ahmedabad flight route on Thursday.

The new service will cover a distance of 870 kilometers in just two hours and operate once a week, with plans to increase frequency in the future. This air service will not only promote business, commerce, and tourism in both states but also provide a much-needed boost to the local economy.

Gwalior, which was previously connected to only two cities, is now connected to seven major cities including Bengaluru, Delhi, Hyderabad, Indore, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, and Ayodhya. The number of flight movements from Gwalior has increased by 181% since 2014. Similarly, Madhya Pradesh has seen significant growth in its aviation sector, with connectivity to 31 cities, a 158% increase from 2014. The state has also witnessed a rise in the number of flights, from 473 in 2014 to 968 in 2024.

Shri Scindia highlighted the infrastructure development at the Gwalior airport, which includes a new terminal building with a peak hour capacity of handling 1400 passengers. The completion of this project in just 16 months is a remarkable achievement. Additionally, the construction of new terminal buildings in Jabalpur, Datia, and Rewa, as well as an airfield in Satna, is underway.

The launch of flights on the Gwalior-Ahmedabad route aligns with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of strengthening the country’s transportation system and connecting tier 2 and tier 3 cities. The city of Gwalior, known for its agricultural and manufacturing activities, as well as its rich heritage, will benefit greatly from improved connectivity and increased tourism.

The event was attended by various dignitaries, including Members of Parliament, ministers from the Madhya Pradesh government, and officials from the Ministry of Civil Aviation.
