Scindia Emphasizes Importance of Aligning with Global International Travel Norms to Ensure Faster Travel

Union Minister of Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya M. Scindia chaired a meeting with airport operators, CISF, and Bureau of Immigration officials.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss potential changes in airport interior design and new technologies that can expedite immigration and security check processes for international travelers. This is a significant step towards establishing international aviation hubs in India.

The meeting focused on solutions derived from studying international airport models, such as those in Singapore and Canada. The key highlights of the discussions include:

1. Cross-Utilization of XBIS Machines: Exploring the possibility of using domestic and international XBIS machines interchangeably at Delhi airport to increase machine availability and reduce wait times.
2. Deployment of New Technologies: Trials for the use of e-gates and e-biometrics for immigration are already underway. These technologies will redefine efficiency and security standards in air travel.
3. Increasing Manpower: A comprehensive analysis has been conducted to determine the manpower requirements of CISF and Immigration officers. This analysis takes into account the planned expansion of existing and new airports across the country, including Jewar, Navi Mumbai, and others.

Union Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia shared on his official handle, “We are currently discussing design models to expedite immigration and security for international travelers. We are also testing new technologies such as e-biometrics. These will play a crucial role in our vision for international aviation hubs in India.”

He also emphasized the government’s commitment to embracing innovation and leveraging technology to transform India’s civil aviation landscape.

He reiterated the ministry’s dedication to positioning India as a global leader in air travel and the industry’s shared goal of creating multiple aviation hubs in the country.

Representatives from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA), Bureau of Immigration (BOI), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), and Airports Authority of India attended the meeting.
