New Delhi, 2nd Dec:
Union Communications and DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Monday addressed widespread speculation surrounding the Sanchar Saathi mobile application, stressing that it is a completely democratic, voluntary and consumer-first platform designed to enhance mobile security for citizens. He said users are free to activate the app as per their convenience and can delete it at any time.

Calling Sanchar Saathi a citizen-first and fully privacy-safe platform, the minister underscored that safeguarding the security of every mobile user remains a top priority for the government. He emphasised that the platform is not a surveillance tool but a transparent, participatory digital safety system that empowers citizens to protect their mobile identity, verify connections, track lost or stolen phones and guard themselves against cyber fraud.

Since its launch, Sanchar Saathi has recorded robust performance across multiple parameters:

  • Over 21.5 crore portal visits
  • More than 1.4 crore app downloads
  • 1.43 crore mobile connections disconnected after citizens flagged them as ‘Not My Number’
  • 26 lakh lost or stolen phones traced, with 7.23 lakh returned to owners
  • 40.96 lakh fake mobile connections shut down based on 6.48 lakh citizen inputs
  • 6.2 lakh fraud-linked IMEIs blocked
  • ₹475 crore in potential economic loss prevented

Scindia highlighted that the app’s call-log reporting feature allows users to flag suspicious numbers, helping protect both themselves and others from emerging fraud attempts. He reaffirmed that digital safety remains a core priority for the government and that Sanchar Saathi is entirely voluntary, transparent and user-driven, ensuring mobile security without compromising privacy.

He reiterated that all controls—from activation to deletion—rest entirely with citizens, making Sanchar Saathi a powerful tool for a safer digital ecosystem in India.
