New Delhi, 11th July. The Supreme Court refused to hear an appeal that challenged the Delhi High Court’s verdict dismissing a Public Interest Litigation against the Reserve Bank of India notification allowing the exchange of Rs 2,000 currency notes without a requisition slip or identity proof on Monday, citing it as an executive policy decision.
The appeal was submitted in the name of lawyer Ashwini Upadhyay, and it was dismissed today by a bench of Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justice P S Narasimha.
The bench said “This is the matter of executive policy decision,” while dismissing the appeal.
The Delhi High Court dismissed the PIL challenging the notices allowing the exchange of Rs 2,000 denomination currency notes without a demand slip or ID verification on May 29.
The top court stated that this decision was made to avoid inconvenience to citizens and that it could not serve as an appeal authority on a policy issue.
According to reports, the high court held that it cannot be claimed that the government’s choice is perverse or arbitrary, or that it supports black money, money laundering, profiteering, or corruption.
Upadhyay filed an appeal against the high court verdict.
Criminals and terrorists, according to Upadhyay, are exchanging Rs 2,000 banknotes without a requisition slip or ID proof like as an Aadhaar card.
