New Delhi, 22nd March.
BRS party leader K Kavitha was arrested last week in the Delhi liquor policy case. The Supreme Court has denied her request for relief and advised her to seek help from the trial court instead.

A special bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna, MM Sundresh, and Bela Trivedi declined to hear her petition, stating that she must follow a standard procedure and go through the trial court. The court emphasized that individuals, even politicians, cannot bypass the regular legal process and go directly to the Supreme Court for bail.

The court instructed that once Kavitha files her bail petition, the lower court must promptly address it. Additionally, the court issued a notice to the Enforcement Directorate regarding the money laundering law provisions applied in her arrest.

Kavitha, the daughter of former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR), was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with an alleged liquor policy scam last Friday. Her ED custody is scheduled to end tomorrow.

Her petition was heard this morning in the Supreme Court amidst an urgent hearing related to the recent arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Kejriwal, who is a sitting chief minister, is the third Aam Aadmi Party leader to be arrested in this case, following his former deputy Manish Sisodia and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh.

The Chief Minister spent the night in custody at the probe agency’s office and is expected to appear before an ED court today. Authorities have put up barricades near the AAP office and implemented traffic restrictions in the city due to anticipated protests by his supporters.
