New Delhi, 20th August. The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed a petition requesting a declaration of the caste system as unconstitutional.
The petition, filed as a public interest litigation (PIL), argued that the caste system violates the Constitution and the right to equality.
Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, addressing the matter, stated, “The Constitution as originally drafted refers to Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Castes. Sorry, we are not inclined. Dismissed.”
The bench, led by Chief Justice Chandrachud, did not find merit in the petition and rejected it.
