New Delhi, 30th March. The Centre announced the appointment of two lawyers to the Gujarat High Court on Wednesday, bringing the court’s working strength to 31, against the sanctioned strength of 52.

On March 2, the Supreme Court Collegium recommended Advocate Deven Mahendrabhai Desai and Moxa Kiran Thakker for elevation.

The Collegium recommended Desai because “his experience at the Bar in handling cases at the trial level before the city civil court would be an asset particularly in dealing with civil and commercial work in Gujarat’s high court.”

The Collegium resolution on Thakker stated that “she has been opined to be a competent lawyer with practise on both the civil and criminal sides” and that “she has been able to overcome her own physical disabilities, and her appointment would bring greater inclusion to the composition of the High Court.”
