Vijayapura 17th Sept: In a daring evening heist on Tuesday, three masked men dressed in military-style uniforms looted gold ornaments worth ₹20 crore and ₹1 crore cash from the State Bank of India’s Chadachan branch, police said.
According to Superintendent of Police Lakshman Nimbargi, the armed gang stormed the branch, overpowered staff, and locked the manager and employees inside a toilet after tying their hands and legs with plastic bags. The robbers forced the branch manager to open the cash vault and gold locker at gunpoint before stuffing the cash and jewellery into their bags.
The gang reportedly fled in a van bearing a fake number plate and headed towards neighbouring Maharashtra. After entering Solapur district, their vehicle met with an accident, sparking an argument with locals, but the robbers escaped with the loot.
A joint search operation by Karnataka and Maharashtra police is underway, and a case has been registered.
