New Delhi, 12th March: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday paid homage to the leaders and participants of the historic Dandi March, recalling the significance of the movement that began on this day in 1930 under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi.

In a message posted on social media platform X, the Prime Minister remembered the contributions of those who took part in the Salt March, one of the most defining events of India’s freedom struggle.

“On this day in 1930, the Dandi March began. I pay respectful homage to all the great personalities who participated in it,” the Prime Minister wrote.

Marking the occasion, Modi also shared a Sanskrit Subhashitam emphasising the triumph of truth.

“सत्यमेव जयति नानृतं सत्येन पन्था विततो देवयानः।
येनाक्रमन्त्यृषयो ह्याप्तकामा यत्र तत्सत्यस्य परमं निधानम्॥”

The verse conveys the message that truth ultimately prevails while falsehood fades away, and that the path of truth leads to the highest realization and spiritual fulfilment.

The Dandi March, also known as the Salt Satyagraha, was a landmark act of civil disobedience against British colonial rule. Led by Mahatma Gandhi, the 24-day march from Sabarmati Ashram to Dandi in Gujarat protested the British monopoly on salt production and taxation.

The movement galvanised millions across India and became a powerful symbol of non-violent resistance and moral courage during the country’s struggle for independence.
