Chandigarh, 5th Oct: Ex-BJP MP and Additional Solicitor General of India, Satya Pal Jain, on Sunday highlighted the values of compassion and service espoused by Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri, while attending a special programme organized by the North Zone Chandigarh Deaf Society.

The event, held at Rose Garden, Sector 16, Chandigarh, marked the birth anniversaries of Gandhi and Shastri. Jain said the two leaders always taught society to extend every possible help to those in need, especially the less fortunate.

In the simple ceremony, members and office bearers of the society, along with Jain, garlanded portraits of Gandhi and Shastri. The society also presented a memento with Gandhi’s photograph to Jain. The entire programme was conducted in sign language, with members actively participating.

Appreciating the efforts of the society, Jain stressed the importance of changing societal mindsets towards the hearing-impaired. “Mahatma Gandhi and Shastri ji’s teachings always stood for helping those who actually needed it. Every human being must feel concerned about those who can neither hear nor speak, and extend them all possible support,” he said.

The North Zone Chandigarh Deaf Society organized the event today as the anniversaries coincided with Dussehra on October 2.
