New Delhi, 19th Nov: Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella will begin a three-day visit to India on December 10, during which he is expected to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi, IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and other senior government officials. The India-born tech leader will travel to Delhi, Bengaluru and Mumbai as part of his tour.
Nadella will commence his trip in Delhi on December 10, proceed to Bengaluru on December 11 and wrap up his engagements in Mumbai on December 12. The visit comes at a time when Microsoft is scaling up its presence in the country’s fast-growing cloud and artificial intelligence ecosystem.
During his visit earlier in January, Nadella announced a $3 billion investment to build cloud and AI infrastructure in India and support nationwide skilling programmes. He had highlighted India’s rise as a global AI hub and reiterated Microsoft’s commitment to helping the country become “AI-first.” The company has already trained 2.4 million people — surpassing its 2025 target — with most trainees from Tier-II and Tier-III cities, and 65% of them women.
Meanwhile, Google recently announced a $15 billion investment to establish a world-class AI hub in Visakhapatnam, intensifying competition in India’s booming digital sector.
Ahead of Nadella’s scheduled visit, Commerce and Industries Minister Piyush Goyal met Lisa Monaco, Microsoft’s Global Affairs President, on Tuesday. Goyal said the discussions focused on strengthening Microsoft’s engagement in India and enhancing AI-led innovation and infrastructure. Both sides also explored deeper India–US cooperation in AI, digital trade and workforce development to drive inclusive and sustainable growth.
