Sanjay Nirupam Alleges ‘Housing Jihad’ in Mumbai, Demands SIT Probe

Mumbai- Shiv Sena leader and former MP Sanjay Nirupam on Friday alleged a large-scale scam in Mumbai’s Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) projects, accusing Muslim builders of altering the city’s demographics. He claimed that fraudulent activities were being carried out under government schemes, including the inclusion of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants as beneficiaries.

Nirupam has urged Maharashtra Housing Minister Eknath Shinde to order a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into the matter. He alleged that out of 600 ongoing SRA projects in Mumbai, around 10% are handled by Muslim builders, who, according to him, are involved in manipulating the city’s demographic structure. “This is housing jihad,” he claimed.

He further stated that 60 builders from the Muslim community, registered under SRA, operate exclusively in Muslim-majority areas and receive support from local Muslim legislators. Nirupam has demanded scrutiny of all documents related to these builders.

Citing an example, he alleged that the number of eligible slum dwellings for rehabilitation in a locality in Oshiwara surged from 45 in 2021 to 95 by 2022, raising suspicions of fraudulent inclusion of ineligible beneficiaries. He also claimed that electricity bills were manipulated to justify the inclusion of unauthorized tenants, including Bangladeshi immigrants, in the SRA project.

Nirupam further alleged that Hindu buyers are unable to purchase flats in societies developed by Muslim builders, particularly in areas like Kurla, Govandi, Mankhurd, Jogeshwari, Bandra, and Andheri. “Muslim builders are deliberately increasing the Muslim population in their societies, restricting Hindus from buying flats there. If a Hindu builder were to deny a Muslim buyer, there would be nationwide outrage,” he remarked.

The allegations have sparked controversy, with demands for an official probe into the matter.
